AFSA is pleased to announce a "Next Stage" panel discussion on post-Foreign Service careers for Diplomatic Security (DS) personnel, taking place at AFSA Headquarters, 2101 E Street NW, on Friday, October 18 from 12:00-1:30 p.m. The focus of the panel will be on the practical, with emphasis on how to parlay the unique skill set of diplomatic security personnel to make a successful transition into related professional fields.

The "Next Stage" series highlights career options and activities post-FS. This panel, which marks the fourth program in the series, is geared to both active-duty and retired AFSA members who are considering career options and activities related to their careers in diplomatic security post-Foreign Service. Previous panels focused on teaching, writing, and the private sector, most of which are available for view at afsa.org/video.

The distinguished panelists are:

  • Justine Sincavage is a Senior Security Consultant at the Department of State and an Accountability Review Board Member. Previous to returning to State, Ms. Sincavage was the Assistant Chief Security Officer of Global Security Operations for General Electric between 2012-2017. Her positions at the Department of State included Office Director of DS's Office of Overseas Protection and Deputy Assistant Secretary of DS's Office of Foreign Missions.
  • John Rendeiro joined International SOS Assistance, Inc. in 2006 as Vice President, Global Security and Intelligence, and transitioned to his current role as Senior Advisor in 2019. Prior to joining SOS, Mr. Rendeiro was DS's Assistant Director for International Programs. Other positions he held in DS included Director of Intelligence and Threat Analysis, Director of Anti-Terrorism Assistance, and Chief of the Office of Professional Responsibility.
  • Erik Antons is Vice President of Global Security for Hyatt Hotels Corporation. Prior to joining Hyatt, he was Manager of International Security and Executive Service with Sempra Energy. Mr. Antons joined State as a Special Agent in 2004, and served in Panama and Argentina as the Assistant Regional Security Officer and completed a variety of Temporary Duty assignments including in Iraq and Liberia.
  • Glen Gershman is Vice President for Global Safety and Security for Laureate Education, which operates more than 150 campuses worldwide. Prior to joining Laureate in 2012, Mr. Gershman was a Special Agent with DS, serving in a variety of capacities including on the Secretary's detail and in the Washington Field Office, the Office of Professional Responsibility, and the Regional Security Offices in Brussels, Beirut, and Islamabad.

It promises to be an interesting discussion and there will be an opportunity to ask questions. Space is limited. So that our far flung membership will be able to benefit from the program, AFSA will post a video of the panel at afsa.org/video shortly after the presentation.
